A hike to break the Spring that has Sprung.
Winter has quite a hold on the mountains. This
last winter has been a strange one in that we just didn’t know what to expect. The
snow we were accustomed to came late and light, but then the polar vortexes
rolled through, so it was an in and out affair. Living on a mountain, the
majority of our property becomes impassable by anything but our truck or my ever
faithful SUV, so running on the trails or hiking takes a hiatus for many chilly
months. Truthfully no one like to run in 40 mile an hour gusts that drop the
temperature below zero. Spring comes as a welcome diversion from this bitter cold…
And spring has sprung as they say.
As a coworker of mine is fond of saying: I’m
just not feeling it.
Hence the t-shirt.
Hence the t-shirt.
I was having a rough day, for reasons I just don’t need to go into, but suffice to say I need fresh air an thinking space. After a great deal of negotiation I was able to get Middy set up with her hiking harness and onto our running leash. I do so love my naughty little pitty mix but I have come to learn that she is quite possibly the laziest dog on earth at times.
However, after a little bit of reassurance we were on to trail
and hiking in no time. We hiked a back trail to a historical cemetery and did roughly
a 2.2 mile loop that we both know well.
Our little hike knocked the dust off for
sure and got me to thinking about a few things on my hiking list. I will go
into the list in a later entry.
Suffice to say, we came home in a light
rain but immensely enjoyed an easy and low key hike together!
Happy Trails,
Kai & Middy
